Tiger Woods - Sponsorship Goner?

Well it seems those important people in the higher-ups of certain companies are starting to come to some sort of decision about this whole Tiger Woods fiasco.

First, it was the consulting company Accenture. They figured they’d get ahead of the curve and SUPPORT the big man for his recreational activities.

It sure is ‘what you do next that counts’. Accenture reassessed what THEY should have done, and soon changed their viewpoint. Whoops. Our bad. Jim in the art department likely took the heat for this one.

Since Accenture set the stage so nicely, AT&T followed suit. Because you know how the popularity of 3G networks would diminish if people likened using their phones to becoming an adulterer. And now it’s Gatorade. I can understand this one, because how many dudes out there will pound that stuff back and think it’s pimp juice that’ll help them in the club. Probably more than we’d like to admit.

Sorry Barack, it’s true. And I know you’re real happy with your health care proposals, and I’mma let chu finish, but I gotta get back to your boy Tiger. Three major sponsor drops, and others (Tag-Heuer, Gillette) have phased back their advertising.

Who cares about watches, but Gillette? Come on, sons. We’ve all seen Tiger on the golf courses, doing his thing. And we all know he knows how to shave properly. He and Roger Federer are like the Gillette poster boys. Without Tiger in that campaign, how will the world know how to shave like a champion?

Hrm. Maybe I’ve overlooked this one. I Guess after all this mess maybe the problem is that he knows how to shave too well, and in the right places… just like another American hero, Michael Phelps. Needless to say, Gillette still phased him out like H1N1.

To conclude, I don’t think our boy Tiger has anything to worry about financially. He’s made his amends, he’s apologized to the world, he’s signed up for sex re-education-classes.. Sounds like a man on the path to redemption.

So sponsors out there. Get it together. Once Tiger gets back on the golf course and starts draining birds faster than Rachel Uchitel, everyone will be back on the bandwagon.
